Can I e-mail you my application?

No. We need a real signature for the waiver.

On the waiver, it asks for a License Number, but I don't have one. Do I need one?

No. If you have one, great, otherwise don't worry about it. You'll have the opportunity to try a race (you can buy a one day license there) and if you like it, you can get an annual racing license. We'll tell you how it all works.

Do I need to be a member of NEBC or another bike club?

Well, yes, for insurance reasons this clinic can now only be offerred to NEBC club members. For only $25 you'll not only get to participate in this great clinic, but also take advantage of club discounts at Cycle Loft, attend additional clinics and coaching sessions throughout the year, get the club newsletter, join the club email list, and much more! The clinic is designed to get the non-racing public exposed to the racing scene, and now you can also take advantage of all these other club benefits as well.

I'm not sure about my fitness level. Will I need to be in good shape?

No. The clinic focuses on skills and pack riding. We try to arrange the students (generally in groups of 10 with 1 lead and 2 assistant instructors) into groups of roughly equal skill and fitness, but we can accommodate all levels of fitness. We try to remind everyone not to either feel like they're holding anyone up or to feel frustrated at a slower pace than they might like to ride. There will be plenty of opportunity to go fast, but for the purposes of our clinic, our goal is to teach you the skills to race competitively and safely. You'll naturally go faster once you get more comfortable in a pack and develop your mental and bike handling skills. That's the beauty of road races - even someone like me can suck wheel until the very end and then pop out and win. It's not usually who's strongest - it's the person who crosses the line first.

Do I need a fancy bike?

No. If you have a brand new Colnago C-50, that's great, but not necessary. The road bike you currently have is almost certainly more than good enough for getting into racing. If you are thinking of a new bike, you don't have to spend a fortune for a racing bike. For entry/intermediate level racing bikes, we recommend seeing our club's title sponsor, CycleLoft in Burlington.

What else will I need to bring besides my bike?

Warm cycling clothing. April can be variable. We're never far from the parking lot, and we're never riding too fast for too long. It's better to be on the warm side than too cool. You can always peel off a layer and return it to your car. We do ride in the rain (although if it's really miserable we can shorten up some of the drills) so a rain jacket is good, as is a change of clothes and a towel in your car.

Just how clean is your bike anyway?

You could eat off it.
