Local Heros

The Ride Magazine

Buy The Ride at better bike shops everywhere in New England, check out their web site, or send them email at ridezine@aol.com

Major Taylor Association
This group is raising money to build a statue memorializing Major Taylor, in his hometown of Worcester, MA. Decades before Jessie Owen and Jackie Robinson appeared on the American sports scene, Major Taylor broke racial barriers to compete with white athletes in velodromes across North America, Europe and Australia. In 1899, he became the second African-American to win a world championship in any sport... Tragically, Taylor died in poverty and obscurity in 1932. The full extent of his accomplishments remains unknown outside the cycling community. We'd like to change that.
