Wow, what a night to finish the season. Mark McCormack shattered the course
record by 35 seconds averaging nearly 29 mph. Congratulations to all the
riders who set Personal Records.
With school back in session, there were a lot of cars out there (which
probably helped some, but hindered others). Reports from the course said
both Mark and Kurt had difficulties with traffic, with Mark coming to a near
stop to wait for a turning car, and Kurt nearly being run off the road by a
passing vehicle. Thanks to everyone for riding safely and making it an
accident-free season.
Thanks also to the volunteers who have helped out throughout the season. It
would be impossible to run the event without you.

Peter Megdal started last and crossed the finish line first in Thursday's
time trial.
Of course he was the only rider crazy enough to ride a time trial in the
cold rain. On the positive side, he did have the luxury of three volunteers
to hold umbrellas over him as he warmed up on his trainer and a follow car
as we drove behind him around the course.
Rain wasn't the only problem, though. After only a couple of miles, a truck
backing a trailer into a driveway blocked the road, forcing us all to brake.
We thought then Peter might call it quits, but instead he stood up to get up
to speed again. For the next 6 miles there were no cars at all on our side
of the road (Peter complained about missing the draft when they pass ;-).
In order to get to the finish ahead of him we passed him with 2 miles to go.
Shortly afterward, another car came up behind Peter and attempted to pass
him - on a blind curve as he rode 35mph downhill! Peter told us that the
passing car was fully in the opposite lane heading for two oncoming cars as
they rounded the corner. Peter braked and looked for a soft landing spot
off the road. Luckily, the oncoming cars braked and veered off the road
edge away from him avoiding both the passing car and Peter and he was able
to finish the ride. We take it as a reminder to be careful on the course.
It only takes one bad driver....
Maybe the adrenalin helped him make up the lost time in the last mile, but
in any case, it was a fast ride - one of Peter's best this year (and only
Matt Svatek has ridden faster in the rain.)

23 riders decided to brave the heat and the sticky oil and gravel getting to
the start line. (It should be nice new pavement next week.)
Logan Hodson topped men's list today, lurking near the 21 minute barrier
despite the heat. Four more managed sub-23 minute times and a smattering
of PRs rounded out the evening.
For the women, Amy Burrer took top honors with a PR followed by Carol
DeCourcey. Mary Ann Martinez showed up raring to go, but jokingly looked for
an excuse just in case. It started with low pressure in her rear tire. We
found a pump, but then the valve stem broke and no one had a spare tubular.
Karena lent her a wheel and Mary Ann psyched herself up again for a good
ride - though maybe not as aerodynamic as with the disk wheel. Then, as
Mary Ann powered away from the start, the loaner wheel pulled sideways in
the dropouts. The tire rubbed the chainstay as if putting on the brakes to
leave her with a frustrating DNF for the evening.
It's always good to see new faces. Welcome to Rob Ruffin who rode his first
race ever.

Eight riders under 23 minutes and 6 PRs. Peter Mosgofian set a new PR by
almost a minute riding an Aegis TT bike borrowed from Cycle Loft, Are you
planning to buy the bike?
Mary Ann Martinez came filled with excuses: no aero bars, no computer,
spending the night in a tent with 25 kids. She rode a good time, but what
surely kept her off her best time must have been that heavy packet of GU she
forgot to take out of her pocket.

It was a holiday on the calendar, but no holiday for those who showed up to
ride.
The heat really made riding miserable for everyone - except Joe Bisson, who

turned in an incredible ride - setting the best time of the season (6th
fastest including last season). He claimed it was because he got stuck in
