COMMENTS:
The ride tonight was marred by both rain and an accident. Though she was not competing,
Tina Wang, Frank Kjaersgaard's wife was riding the course and was hit by a driver pulling
out of Kimball's Ice Cream store on Rte.225. The driver pulled out fast to avoid westbound
traffic and swung wide, hitting Tina, who was riding eastbound. Luckily she sustained only
a few scrapes and bruises. Though Tina was pretty certain the driver saw her, he did not
stop and Tina wasn't able to get the license number. With luck, other drivers who saw the
accident will be able to help the police catch him.
The police stopped traffic and several of our competitors stopped to find out if Tina was
okay. So if the rain wasn't enough, riders have extra excuses for slow times, but really, Frank,
I think knee surgery, not being on the bike for several months, and rain were already sufficient
to justify any time. You didn't need such extreme help from Tina....
Louis Salemy, squeaked by ahead of the road closure and set the fast time for the night, and Greg
Robidoux managed a PR despite coming to a stop - maybe you've been going out a bit to hard Greg?

Road Work Ahead 7/12
The Town of Concord is planning on repaving Monument Street starting next Monday. With luck and good weather, we'll have nice new pavement to race on on Wednesday evening. If, however, they are delayed and have to leave the road in rough or unsafe condition, we will have to cancel the TT. (Unless anyone wants to challenge Russell for the MTB record.) COMMENTS:
Despite the absence of those racing at Fitchburg tomorrow, 40 riders enjoyed the near perfect TT
conditions tonight.
Peter Megdal took top honors, edging out Louis Salemy by less than a second.
Tonight was also a night of single-rider categories:
Annette Kennedy was the sole woman rider tonight.
George Reynolds remains the only recumbent rider, despite efforts to recruit more bent racers.
Maybe some competition would spur him on in his efforts to break 23 minute barrier.
Bill Ingraham, the only fixed-gear rider this year, was frustrated by a dropped chain as he
pursues the fixed-gear record set by John Bayley in 2002. Bill has the fastest time for
riders over 35.
And Russell Herbert established a new category and record by finishing in just over 29
minutes on a mountain bike with low pressure knobbies, no aerobars, and a no-lockout front
suspension that was bobbing like crazy as he powered up the final hill.

6/23 Notes from the organizers
A non-racing rider who was riding on the course tonight took the time to come by the
finish line to say he was startled by several riders who passed him with little room to
spare and no warning. This is just a reminder to give other riders a courteous warning
when passing. Thanks.
I spent some time today smoothing the lip of the hole at the top of the Monument Street
hill and we managed to avoid broken wheels, but I also talked with the Concord Police and
the town Engineering department. The town will be repaving Monument Street from the top
of the hill northward to the town line sometime within the next three weeks. (It was
originally scheduled for today, but thankfully, postponed.) Hopefully the work will be
done between Wednesdays, but if not, and the road is too rough, we may be forced to
cancel on short notice. Check here for updates.

Mike Brown survived his unplanned meeting with a right-turning van with a bit of road
rash, but luckily no serious injuries to himself or his bike. Conflicting reports of
the incident were filed by Mike and the driver, but neither felt the need to take it further.
Just a reminder to be careful, especially near the rotary where they may turn right into
the bank or the post office or try to squeeze around the right of left-turning traffic.
Regardless of who's right, the rider will be the worse off in a crash.

Heavy rain damaged a culvert on Lowell Road near the start line. Though the TT course itself was intact, traffic was detoured over Barnes Hill Road.
