New For 2008
December 2007, the board voted to make changes to the Race Reimbursement Program for 2008. In short the changes to the program are as follows:
- Eliminated $10 sign up fee
- Eliminated deadline for sign up
- Kept minimum races at 8 qualifying races
- Increased volunteer requirement to 12 hours
You do NOT need to sign up in advance for RRP and you do NOT need to pay $10. If you race a minimum of 8 qualifying races and volunteer 12 hours, you will qualify to have a portion of those race fees reimbursed at the end of the year. Note that we are switching from “points” to “hours” to simplify things. Also note that for a race to “qualify” you must be an NEBC member, have NEBC listed on your license as your racing club (or have made that change with the USCF), and wear a current NEBC jersey in the race. This means that races raced for other clubs will not qualify. Race must be sanctioned by the USCF, NORBA, or EFTA and may NOT be training races. A full description of the program and its requirements will be sent out after the January board meeting. There will be a revised list of volunteer opportunities posted after the January board meeting.
The changes to RRP are for 2008. They are NOT retroactive to 2007.
General Description
NEBC has two programs to encourage member involvement and recognize the contributions of its racing and non-racing members.
The Race Reimbursement Program (“RRP”) reimburses race entry fees for NEBC Members who race in USCF-, NORBA- and EFTA-sanctioned races. The Volunteer Recognition Program (VRP) was created to encourage the involvement of members who choose not to be part of RRP. In recognition of the large amount time and energy these members give to NEBC, they are given gift certificates to the Cycle Loft (aka “Cycle Loft Bucks”). In addition, RRP participants who have met their RRP requirements (see below) are then put into the VRP and rewarded with Cycle Loft Bucks for their additional service to NEBC.
The goals of RRP/VRP are:
- Promote the sport of bicycle racing by encouraging NEBC members to enter races and/or to volunteer in the promotion of bicycle-racing events such as races, clinics, training, etc.
- Promote the image, logos and products of NEBC, its sponsors, and the sport of bicycle racing by wearing the club jersey in races, and on training rides, and at bicycle-related events.
- Maintain NEBC as an attractive club for its membership.
RRP Participation Requirements
The following are the requirements for participation in the RRP.
- Complete the RRP enrollment form and return it, along with the $10 enrollment fee.
- Obtain a USA Cycling annual license which states your club is “0035 – Northeast Bicycle Club” and your team is “NEBC/Cycle Loft”.
- Only races raced during the current calendar year, January 1 through December 31 may be claimed.
- Racers must participate in at least 8 races for NEBC.
- Riders must be wearing the current official NEBC club jersey in each race they claim. A jersey from the current sponsorship cycle is required!
- Riders must enter “NEBC/Cycle Loft” on each race entry form (“Standard Athlete Release”) on the club/team line (or equivalent.) It is YOUR responsibility to make sure the team name is recorded correctly!
- Racers must volunteer for a minimum of 10 “points” in service of the club. See the table below for a list of suggested duties and the points they carry. Other duties must be approved by a vote of the Board of Directors (“BOD”). You must perform one “big” duty which carries a weight of 5 duty points or more, plus additional duties to accumulate the minimum required. Once members have 10 points, any additional points will count towards VRP. Juniors need a minimum of 5 points to receive RRP.
- Races must be sanctioned by the United States Cycling Federation (“USCF”), the National Off-Road Bicycle Association (NORBA), or the Eastern Fat Tire Association (EFTA) and may NOT be training races. Sanctioning exceptions will be made for those racers who do not have sufficient races available locally for their age group.
- Races must be bicycle races (Track Events, Criteriums, Time-Trials, Road Races, Mountain Bike races (down hill or cross country), or Cyclocross.) Triathlons, centuries, fund raisers, etc. are not included in the RRP.
- Eight of the races must be in the North Atlantic District (NH, MA, ME, CT, RI, VT, NY.) Additional races may be in any district.
VRP Participation Requirements
The following are the requirements for participation in the VRP.
- You must be an NEBC member.
- Volunteer activites claimed under VRP must have been completed during the current calendar year.
- Volunteer activities must be sanctioned by the Board of Directors. Activites not listed in the table below will be subject to approval by the VRP coordinator and the BOD.
- All volunteer time must be submitted on the online form, prior to December 19.
RRP/VRP Participant Responsibilities
Each RRP or VRP member must:
- Submit all duties (hours) on the online form, prior to December 19.
- Submit race results for all qualified races via the online race entry form, prior to December 19.
