NEBC Board Meeting notes, 10 September 2007, plus call for nominations
Notes, NEBC Board Meeting, 10 September 2007
Attending: Tami Buhr, Scott Brooks, Dave Chiu, Jean Cunningham, Bob Evans, Justin Howe, Annette Kennedy, Mark McMaster, Brooke O’Connor, Claire O’Connor, Jim O’Connor
Clothing Design and Sponsorships—Justin Howe, an NEBC member with extensive clothing design and vendor experience, has been working with the sponsorship committee and members of the board in developing a new uniform design for the coming year. Based on previous history, the goals of the process this year include (1) ensure that clothing can be delivered well before the start of the racing season this spring—ideally in early March, (2) keep our current sponsors happy, and be mindful of new sponsorship opportunities ( e.g., on the shorts, unused areas of the jersey, etc.), (3) end up with distinctive, high quality, feasibly priced clothing, and a vendor that provides the club some flexibility around ongoing orders. Building on the knowledge that’s been accumulated about the process through the last few redesign iterations (and an understanding that “design by massive consensus” hasn’t always been successful in the past), Justin presented three preliminary options. The board offered feedback on the design direction, and the sponsorship committee is reaching out to current and potential sponsors. Justin will incorporate the feedback and present the design at an upcoming meeting, likely October or November. As always, all club members are welcome to attend.
Comments on the way out the door—Annette noted that the women’s rides, led by Catherine Womack and Kathy Martin and supported by many others in the club, had ended—very successfully—for the season; each ride drew, on average, 30+ women and feedback was very positive. Also, NEBC riders did very well during the MA masters weekend.
Additional note: Board of Directors—Julian Hjortshoj, a current Board member, will be away from Boston from October through December. In his absence, an interim board member will be appointed. Dave Chiu, member-at-large, has been nominated. Additional nominations should be sent to Tami (tsbuhr@gmail.com) before 11 October. A special election then will be held at the 15 October board meeting, and the results communicated shortly thereafter.
Please note: The October and November board meetings, because of the holidays, will be on the third Mondays—thus 15 October and 19 November. Non-summer hours in effect, so 7:00 p.m. start time at the Burlington Library. All club members are welcome to attend.
