Club Meeting Minutes - March 2005

We had a quiet late winter meeting, with many of our regulars out of town, and managed to wrap up early, before the bouncers showed up for a change.

In attendance: Tami Buhr, Julian Hjortshoj, Annette Kennedy, Ed Kross, Mark McMaster, Karena Paukulis.

Charlie Baker Time Trial: Not much to report here. The time trial is still slated to begin on 4/6, pending confirmation. Scott Rose is now father to a baby girl (Congrats!) so staffing of the time trial is a little up in the air, but between Scott, the Evanses and Robb Rennie, we’re assured that it will go off.

Junior Program: Kitty was away, but sent a report via e-mail. She’s in the process of rebuilding the Junior program after a couple of slow years. We currently have 2 10 year olds, and 4-5 14-16 year olds in the program. They’ll meet with their coach (Johs) twice a month, target some races, and optionally go on a training program. We’re looking to build up the program, so if you know of kids that have an interest, please contact Kitty. Anyone interested in mentoring a junior at a race should also contact Kitty.

Kids Program: Some exciting news on this front. Annette is coordinating with the folks at Fitchburg to run a one day clinic/rodeo at Fitchburg the day before opening. The day would culminate in a single lap race around the crit course, and attendance at the Fitchburg opening cermony/pasta dinner. Annette is hoping to tie this into her 7 week CycleKids course. Annette is still looking for volunteers for CycleKids.

Kids Crit: The Winchester rec department unfortunately cannot guarantee that the cinder track will be available the day of the Kids crit. We discussed changing the date and/or the venue, but time and options are limited, so we elected to risk it, and keep the same date. Insurance for the Kids Crit was a potential issue, since USAC will no longer issue 1 day licenses to the under-10 crowd, but apparently they have provided an alternative non-licensed insurance, so we will use that.

Club Championships: We still need someone to step up to the plate, if we want to have a crit or road race. We will again designate one date for the CBTT, but the other races require someone to find a course, and set it up.

Spring Clinic: The clinic is very nearly full, but not quite. So, if you know of folks who are procrastinating, well, carpe diem and whatnot.

Coaching Lectures: The 2nd nutrition lecture (nutrition for racing) is this Thursday at the Cycle Loft. Send a note to Jess Truslow to let her know you’re coming.

Miscellany: We talked briefly about various ways to spend money. Extra subsidies for juniors, subsidized banquet tickets, and bathroom facilities at CBTT were brought up. Annette discussed cycling in southern Quebec. The rapid weight loss of certain club members was touched upon.
