Sunapee Cat 4 women, May 20, Sally Annis
There were 8 NEBC riders in the field of about 20. As Cathy mentioned she did some nice work pulling at the beginning of the race then at about mile 7 we started into the rolling hills. The hills broke up the pack a bit and when I looked around at mile 17 or so, there were 6 or 7 riders left in the lead pack. I found myself at the front of the pack going up a hill around mile 17 or 18 and when I looked back at the top of the hill, the pack was a little ways back so I kept going and after looking back many more times realized that they weren’t getting any closer to me, so I just
kept pedaling and followed the pace car to the finish line. I found out after the race that despite some conversations in the lead pack about catching me, no one wanted to work to close the gap and instead wanted to save energy for the finish.
