Attlelboro Kid's Crit, Lydia Marzot, July 8
It was a hot muggy day as we drove down to the race in Attelboro. I ended up racing both the my own 10-11 age group and the 12-13 age group. The 10-11 year old race started at 11:30 and by the time we lined up for the start my knees were shaking a bit with nerves. There were 4 boys and 2 girls in this race. Since it was on grass we decided to bring my mountain bike, which was not the best choice. Some of the kids had road bikes or cross bikes which were faster for the hard field we rode on. The race was 3 laps only and I started off pacing myself but by the second lap I knew I should have started harder. In the end I came in second over all and first for the girls. The first finisher was Peter Gougen, very fast on a road bike.
In the second race I lined up with some 12-13 year olders. There were two kids who looked very fast, a girl from ECV on a cross bike and a boywith a skinsuit and road bike who looked 15. In this race I learned from the last one to start fast. I went hard right away and was by myself for 3 laps. On the 4th lap the girl and the boy caught up to me but I just kept going hard and finished first overall. It was was very exciting and I came home with 2 gold medals. It was not nationals or even the great race NEBC put on, but I still had a fun
time.
