Concord Crit and Wells Ave and other stuff

35+ CONCORD:

Chuck Dopfel – 4th palce
Mike Dwyer – 7th place
David Smith – 8th place

Chuck Dopfel did a great job and ended up in 4th place for the CAT 5, 35+ at Concord. Chuck has really improved since the beginning of the year and he had a SPRINT!!!! It was like he gave birth!
(okay, so you can’t compare it to child bearing but it was something new)

It’s nice to see people get better and better. I have to say, we produce a lot of smooth riders and knowing that you can depend on a wheel of an NEBC team member is a great thing and only adds confidence for everyone involved

I felt bad for Keith Reynolds. We went out for a warm up ride on route 9, 45 minutes before the Concord Crit, and his pedal spindle spun out of the crank. We could only thread it back 1/2 way and he pedaled with one leg. That was NO easy task since that terrain was hilly but we made it back 12 minutes before start time and he got it fixed.

Wells:

In addition, I raced at Wells on Sunday. I took 5th place but I have to say Boston College and Northeastern Univ., who had a total of 4 riders, did a great job. Those guys have been riding really great at Wells. The first place winner was a young kid from Boston College, skinny as a stick but he had great movement and skill. If you saw the one prime where he was behind 6 guys and he crossed diagonally in back of them from right to left, caught the wheel on the far left, passed everyone, came around front and blocked the lead rider – that was perfect, like the letter C, drawing from the bottom up – he won the prime. He takes risk without being unsafe. He also fooled me on the final lap, when I was next to him. He and I were out front on the last turn, battling it out, right next to each other, and he quickly dropped back, giving me the impression that he couldn’t maintain his speed, only to catch my rear wheel and then come back around on the opposite side while my head was turned the other way, so I couldn’t catch his move – very smart on his part for CAT 5. He won the race. A young buck with a brain

Peter Mosgofian rode a strong race. Up in front for most of the race, and hung tough

Also, it was nice to see some women riders in the C race. Those gals were good and I can’t recall there team, but they did a hell of a job. I wish we’d see more women in that race, and I’m not sure why we don’t. Plenty of strong gals out there. I’ve seen some in the B race but not much in the C.
