Downeast Cyclocross B Master's, Bill Doonan, 10-15-06
Pineland Farms New Gloucester Me.
Huge NEBC Turnout
Race # 1
Early registration allowed me to start on the front line…. “Life is Good”
Awesome start long swooping pavement run into a tight left hand turn on the grass a few rider’s carrying way too much speed and having problems getting their bike’s under control i’m able to get by no problem….Nice!!!!!
Through the barrier’s and up the off camber heading for the woods and the mud….. Sweet!!!!!
Coming out of the mud section something doesn’t feel right , i’m not in mud but it sure feels like it….. flat rear tire…. Bummer!!!!!!!!
Race over
Rode half a lap very carefully to the pit switched wheels and was able to get back in the race.

Race # 2
Again early reg put me on the front row , i had a great start heading into the woods, this 1st section was flat and fast with tight turns ending with a slippery tight downhill chicane then out of the woods and into left over mud from Saturday.
Down a short steep hill into a muddy sharp right hand turn into more semi dried mud. Sweet!!!!!! Coach Brooks instructed me to lay off the brakes, are you freaking kidding i had a death grip on those babies.
We came out of the woods up a double track incline into the barriers up a short run up past the pits and onto the pavement and the start finish line.
Don Seib and i rode together and pushed each other for most of the race , Don came around i fought for his wheel, caught him in a turn got by , he caught me again , it’s not often you’ll stay close with a teamate in a Cross race….. Awesome!!!! Best part of the race.
On the last lap i got caught by an ECV rider , we went into the barrier’s together i had nothing left or so i thought only to hear Mary Lou , Dave Chui, Coach Brooks and the other NEBC supporter’s give me the lift i needed to reach the top of the run up first and cross the finish line ahead Mr. ECV.
Also thanks to Mike and Cathy Rowell , Julie and Jim Lockhart for encouragement , anyone who has done Cross knows how much that helps.
