Thread City Cross 35+ C Race, John Laupheimer, 10-21-06
Once again, as the only NEBCer in my race, I get a chance to write a race report. Thread City put a long and, I thought, difficult course together. We started on the back loop which included a tough ride up and along an embankment and then down past the finish line. The course had one set of barriers and one telephone pole to get over. But there were another 4 run-ups without barriers and two descents that were tough to ride. We only did 2 ¼ laps. I had a good start and was in good shape half way through the 1st lap. I didn’t see who won but I was with 2 MRC guys for the whole race. We had a good gap on anyone else. At the end of the last lap was sitting in comfortably behind them (as comfortably as one can be in a cross race.) As we came over the side of the embankment, the fellow in front slowed and I lost it. So had to run down and remount. One of the MRCer’s sat up. By the time he knew I was closing on him, he didn’t have time to wind it up.
3rd place.
John
