NBX Masters 35+ Cyclocross Report [Chris Smith]

=============
NBX Day 1:
=============
I felt I was going backwards off the start but we all bunched up when we hit the beach. Things thinned out after a lap as usual. I face planted my second time hitting the beach, my right brake/shifter got turned 90 deg but was still working so I just rode with it like that, I also banged my knee and got a mouth full of sand. I ended up dueling it out with one other guy for most of the race. Little did I know a group of three including the ever cagey Tom Stevens, was lurking just behind us. On the last lap I had Wayne’s wheel in my sights. The group of three then made their move on the paved section. I lost four spots and was trying to catch the back of the train. I was a little gun shy going into the sand so I was not able to close the gap. Ended the day with a Hannah cupcake and a hot cocoa.

NBX Day 2:
=============
I crashed while warming up and was not too confident about the race. I decided to roll with the IF SS. After another slow start I started picking up spots. The long beach runs were working to my advantage. Every lap I felt I was getting the slick corners dialed in a little better. I would loose a little ground on the pavement but make it up in the beach. I got GeWilli on the beach run after the start finish and had Paul Weiss in my sights but I ran out of race, one more lap and I would have had him. It was a real fun weekend and a great way to end the season.. Unfortunately they sold out of cupcakes on day two.

The off season has begun…
