in his own words

Q: How did you spend this off-season?
A: Riding in the woods and trying to keep up on snow shoes/skate skis with some other club members.
Q: What are your goals for 2009?
A: Bring home a win.
Q: What is your Favorite Race?
A: EFTA’s Fort Rock. I first saw a helmet cam video of the race course and knew it was going to be a gas. This place has it all!
Q: When did you start racing, how and why?
A: Does being chased around the school yard count? Back in 2000 I bought a race capable bike and was hooked. The shop hooked me up with some EFTA fliers and I gave it a shot. I remember crossing the line with a broken chain and it felt so good. All of the riding was contagious and have met the best people in life along the way.
Q: Who were/are your cycling mentors and/or influences?
A: My teammates. They have a ton of experience and are great people on and off the bike.
Q: What was your first bike? When/how did you get it?
A: A red BMX Ross with a number plate. Kids love number plates. I unearthed it for college but ended up giving it away.
Q: What was your first win?
A: The most memorable one was EFTA’s Fort Rock.
Q: What would you consider your finest moment on the bike?
A: The first time I donned a set of lights and went for a fat tire ride in the dark. Exhilarating!
Q: What’s the strangest thing you’ve seen on a bike ride?
A: I saw a tree fall one winter, and heard it too! There are many other moments which just start to become ordinary; squirrels passing through your wheels, riding across frozen ponds, dropping off rocks.
Q: What is your favorite loop to ride?
A: Harold Parker in Andover, MA
Q: My philosophy on training is …
A: Don’t go it alone.
Q: My favorite bike part is …
A: The tire/wheel combo. You can never have too many!
