in his own words

How did you spend this off-season?
Getting lost around Boston and complaining about the cold weather!
What are your goals for 2009?
I would love for this team to be extremely successful and grab some big wins. Personally, I am targeting The Tour of the Battenkill, Fitchburg, the US Elite Criterium Championships, and the Crossroads Criterium Series (NC).
What are your Favorite Movies/Bands/Books?
Favorite band is Coldplay (say what you want to say, just don’t be un-original and quote 40-Year Old Virgin)
What is your Favorite Race?
My favorite race would have to be the Carolina Cup in Greensboro, NC.
When did you start racing, how and why?
I starting racing after graduating college in 2005 after a serious injury that kept me out of my senior season of college soccer. Never looked back!
Who were/are your cycling mentors and/or influences?
My parents have always influenced me a great deal and have always supported me. My biggest cycling mentor is my cycling coach Ashley Powell who has helped me transform from a Cat 4 to a contender at the Pro 1,2 level in just a year.
What was your worst or most embarrassing moment on the bike?
After crashing and tearing my skinsuit to shreds in a criterium I took my free lap only to realize while back on the bike that there wasn’t much left of my skinsuit in the front. I had to constantly pull cloth over myself in order not to get charged with indecent exposure after the race. When I contested the field sprint everything was basically out there for everyone to see. I did take 3rd place though, so it wasn’t horrible.
When you’re not on your bike, what do you like to do?
Just enjoy good company. That pretty much makes everything fun.
Who’s the biggest badass on two wheels?
George Hincapie…how can you not love that guy.
What is your favorite loop to ride?
My favorite training ride is doing the “Triple Hump” in North Carolina. It’s about 70 miles with three major climbs (Sauertown, Pilot Mountain, and Hanging Rock) and almost 6,000 feet of climbing.
A word or phrase that best describes my strengths as a cyclist is …
Criteriums
If I could train anywhere, it would be…
Southern Spain.
My philosophy on training is…
Listen to your body, and more is not always better. The fast guys know how to rest and recover.
My favorite bike part is…
My saddle (finally found the right one!)
