in his own words
How did you spend this off-season?
I spent the off season studying! Med school is time-consuming. I didn’t sign up for this…!
What are your goals for 2009?
In terms of racing, I want to help the team nab a big result. However, I’d also like to get first-timers excited about the sport and spread an appreciation for bike racing and physical fitness to the community!
When did you start racing, how and why?
I started racing bikes during my senior year of high school (2003) as a way to prepare for my first Ironman Triathlon. I finally made the switch to focusing on just cycling in 2006. Why? ‘cause it’s so much cooler!
Who were/are your cycling mentors and/or influences?
My coach Aidan Charles has been instrumental in getting me to train and race intelligently.
What would you consider your finest moment on the bike?
Taking second place in the Livingston Campus Circuit Race in front of riders that can really throw down the mad hurt!
What’s the one thing you’ve done on a ride (training or race) that you will absolutely never do again?
Attack from the gun. What a terrible idea. I’m just not that kind of rider.
When you’re not on your bike, what do you like to do?
Read. Study. Check out surgeries. Write long-winded race reports to the NEBC list.
What is your favorite loop to ride?
Back in New Haven, there was a ride out through Woodbridge into Shelton, out to Woodbury, then returning to New Haven through Southbury. I’m not a climber, but I loved riding those climbs for some strange reason. Awesome ride.
A word or phrase that best describes my strengths as a cyclist is …
Punchy Sprinter
