Peter Chiu wins Norwell Circuit Race
Norwell, MA – Having won the field sprint for 36th place the day before NEBC rider Peter Chiu improved on his form to take the win in the Men’s Category 3/4 race at the Norwell Circuit Race on Sunday. Peter was hand delivered to 200 meters from the line by the excellent teamwork of Barry Greenberg and Scott Brooks in a supurb leadout. Scott was able to maintain his leadout speed and roll in for 4th.
With approximately 10 riders in a field of 65, the NEBC/Cycle Loft/Devonshire Dental squad was very active throughout the 26 mile race. From initiating breaks to countering moves, there was constantly someone stirring the pot, allowing Peter to save his legs for when it mattered most. The win was the first of Peter’s career and another top finish by the strong men’s Category 3 team this season. Peter and the team look to continue their winning ways this weekend at the Central New Hampshire Road Race in Bow, NH, an event the club hosts.
Peter Bradshaw continued his good form in the Men’s P/1/2/3 race. Bradshaw was joined by the Fitchburg Green Jersey winner Roy Van Cleef and winner of the Yarmouth Clam Festival Rebecca Wellons (who was on her 2nd race of the day) for the 36 mile circuit race. Van Cleef and Bradshaw made several attacks and counters, but nothing stuck. Eventually a break snuck off the front and was well represented by most of the bigger teams. Determined to do something worthy of a race report and his silver medal, Bradshaw got in a move with Jonathan Chodroff (CRCA/Empire Cycling) the two worked well together and were quickly joined by Steven Weller (Fitness Together/IF p/b Lionette’s), Adam Sullivan (Kenda/Raleigh), and Ciaran Mangion (CCB/Volkswagen). The chase group worked well but still weren’t able to pull the break back, and soon were joined by Sean O’Rourke (Kenda/Raleigh), Al Donahue (Nerac), and ex-NEBCer Chris Hong (Kelly Benefit Strategies/LSV). With the fresh legs of the new comers the chase group was able to pull the lead group to within 10 seconds… then the cat and mouse games began, Kenda/Raleigh already had a guy in the lead group and effectively shut down the chase group, Bradshaw was able to play it smart and take 3rd in the sprint, coming in for 8th overall! Roy and Rebecca rolled in with the field for 20th and 32nd respectively.
