Annette Kennedy, captain of the NEBC Cat 4 Women’s team and ride leader of the Tuesday Night Women’s Ride, presented a cake to Mary Lautman of Reading, MA, the 100th woman to join the club, this past Tuesday during the weekly ride that starts in Lexington Center. Jane Clark, the club’s longest standing woman member (over 20 years!) also joined the celebration.
The Tuesday night rides allow women of all levels to learn and work on improving riding skills with opportunities to ride in small groups with female cyclists of similar abilities. You don’t have to be a member to participate in the Tuesday night ride, but we certainly encourage you to join!
Windsor, MA Humidity greeted over 480 riders at Tour of the Hill Towns, which also happened to be the Massachusetts State Road Race Championships. NEBC was well represented in all fields and brought home three Silver Medals!
Congrats to everyone who raced, those who finished, and especially those who medaled!
NEBC’s own Philip Keyes is to be inducted into the Mountain Bike Hall of Fame in Crested Butte, Colorado! Every year the Mountain Bike Hall of Fame’s members nominate three to seven individuals who have helped shape the sport in to what it is today for induction. On September 24th at a ceremony during the industry trade show Interbike at the Sand’s Expo and Convention Center in Las Vegas, NV five others will be honored along side Philip.
Philip is being recognized for his fantastic work with the New England Mountain Bike Association (NEMBA). In 2003, Philip and NEMBA were able to raise nearly a quarter of a million dollars to save a local trail system known as “Vietnam” in Milford, MA. In doing so, NEMBA became the first club in the country to purchase land for the sole purpose of preservation and recreation.
Several NEBC members (like Philip) are also members of NEMBA, our members have even made it on to the cover of their magazine Singletracks several times!
More information and the other inductees can be found on VeloNews
